Sixty Day Anime Challenge: Favorite Anime Couple

$

0

This was an unmitigated disaster the moment I decided to do it. I lasted six days and then work plus real life overwhelmed me. I am also balancing this with my other site and it just had to tip at some point. I plan on finishing this though. I am already writing the other days in advance so I am planning on finishing this. Other people did this challenge as well. I wonder if they finished it.

On day seven, I’ll be talking about my favorite anime couples. Screw choosing just one though. I want to list down my top seven picks because, as an anime fan, I can’t just stick to one couple. Most of us have five or ten of these pairs because every couple has their own cute side to them that we gravitate to. Here’s my top seven:

7. Chise and Shuji

From: Saikano

The pairing: The girl turned weapon of mass destruction and the her boyfriend

saikano-anime-03

This anime is just pure tragedy. It’s about two lovers but the girl is a weapon and they have to endure a lot of sad stuff to be together. It’s not a really good show but I like the pair because they’re so depressing. In the show, it was established early on that they didn’t really love each other. The boy just wanted to date a girl and he tried to date her. As the show progresses, the couple reached a point of no return though where, literally, the guy ended up being the last man on earth. There were genuine tears for me though because I am easily manipulated by the show. They also killed off a lot of characters and I remember how the guy had to preserve through all that while also making sure his tiny girlfriend feels loved while she slowly turns into a weapon of mass destruction.

6. Hotaru and Eru

From: Hyouka

The pairing: The ever so curious girl and the uninterested boy who can’t refuse the girl’s requests

tumblr_m5msau6Kcb1qh1r3no1_500

Aside from the cuteness, I love how these two playoff each other. One of the best things I like about Hyouka is how Hotaru indulges Eru. He declared early on that he doesn’t want to do unnecessary things that exert effort but he would easily cave in when Eru requests something of him. There was also this subtle growth for Hotaru because of how much he wanted to change for Eru’s sake. It’s such a cute relationship between them.

My favorite scene between these two would be in the last episode where Eru is this rich girl from a farming family and she acts like a serious person towards other people. She would act all cute and friendly towards Hotaru though establishing that she treats him differently. This is then stamped hard when Hotaru reciprocates with that beautiful scene when they were walking alone together. “I’ll handle the business side for you”. Oh my gawd, I melted when I heard that. Nothing is clearly presented though. Their relationship is never a focus of the story so you can only understand their relationship through the subtle narrative of the show.

5. Chiwa and Eita

From: Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuruba Sugiru

The pairing: The study obsessed boy and his beloved childhood friend

oreshura2

This is a harem anime about the hottest girl in school blackmailing this guy to become pretend couple with him. He chose him because he’s the only guy that isn’t affected by her beauty and they also have the same dead pan outlook in life. The boy has a childhood friend though that is often poorly tossed to the side because the pretend girlfriend is fencing him up. You think the childhood friend has no chance now but, as the show progresses, it becomes clear that the pretend girlfriend is the only girl in this harem that has no real connection with Eita. She decided to seriously become intimate with him after learning of his special relationship with his childhood friend.

He used to have eight grade syndrome. It’s when you play act like an idiot. Basically like a LARPer but he takes it more seriously and it consumes his every life. I think he pretends that he is a dragon warrior or something. He actually writes his fantasies down in a notebook that the pretend girlfriend managed to obtain. She uses this to blackmail him because he is now this overly serious guy that does nothing but study. He always had his face in a book and he only cared about his grades. His life would be ruined if people found out he used to play act like an idiot. He only decided to become a serious person though because of his childhood friend. Poor girl got a career ending injury one day and she can no longer play the sports she loves. I think it was judo and the injury is so severe she had no choice but to give it up. Eita then decided to become a doctor. In the last page of his fantasy notebook, it simple reads “I’m going to heal you” as a declaration of his life changing attitude. It’s all because he love his childhood friend so much. I hope they end up together.

4. Anko and Yoshikawa

From: GTO

The pairing: The stuck up high class girl and the boy she used to bully

hqdefault

The first few episodes of this anime featured Yoshikawa trying to kill himself because a girl was bullying him. He is so pathetic that a girl can pin him and undress him. She can humiliate him and force him to dress up as a girl. She would then take pictures of his embarrassing unmanly state. I call that the best foreplay ever though but let’s not get sidetracked here. The school trip arc was capped off by Anko realizing that she only abused Yoshikawa because she grew up abused herself. In reality, she actually likes Yoshikawa. The gentle boy she used to bully is actually this freaking hot girl’s type. It took Onizuka dressing up as a gangster to force it out of her though and she realized how much the boy meant to her. It was a smooth arc with a nice build up and a wonderful pay off. The idea that Yoshikawa can tap that anytime he desires is also pretty awesome.

I mostly did not watch the live action though because Anko and Urumi Kanzaki were fused into one person. That means this arc didn’t exist in the live action and the girl with mismatched eyes shared Anko’s antagonistic personalities. It was off putting.

3. Kyon and Haruhi

From: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

The pairing: The girl who doesn’t she is god and the boy who constantly tries to keep her under control

*nostalgic sigh*

This defined the bright days when I realized I wanted to review anime. “That ponytail you had back then looked so good it was criminal”. Oh my, how this franchise has fallen. Much like Hotaru and Eru though, this couple’s development is subtle but also very sincere. The girl puts on a tough and stubborn front but she is often intimate with just this one random guy. I loved this couple so much that I am bummed the following installments of the series killed their progression. Endless Eight can kill anything. The series has a short revival with Nagato as the lead but it’s safe to say Haruhism is now dead.

2. Gin and Hotaru

From: Hotarubi no Mori e

The pairing: The human girl who grew up befriending a supernatural creature and the man who befriended a little girl

This is one of my personal favorite movies because it’s just about the love story between the characters. They met when the girl was just a kid and she would spend her summer days visiting her relatives. She then met a spirit among the woods when she got lost one day. She befriended Gin and they became close friends ever since. As the girl grew up, she slowly becomes intimate with Gin. There is a rule though that Gin cannot touch humans or else he’ll die or something. Anyways, long story short, love conquers all and he died. It was sad but their love story is so precise that it still makes me smile to this day.

1. Chihaya and Taichi

From: Chihayafuru

The pairing: The hot girl fixated on her fated reunion with her childhood friend and the guy who watches content with seeing her smile

8

The only guy I know that can make pink hair look sexy is often tossed to the side because this hot girl he is crushing on is fixated with reuniting with her childhood friend. Taichi did a lot of things in this show just for Chihaya. He played karuta for her, he joined her karuta club for her and played seriously for her. The things he did for this girl can make any girl swoon but Chihaya is so blind that poor Taichi has no chance at this moment in time. I love this pairing though. They look good together and I am always rooting for him. It’s a shame the romantic love triangle is taking a backseat to the competitive sports because I really want to see these two together. I’ve had very detailed dreams of them together and it’s very unhealthy at this point.

I also root hard for Taichi because of this quote. “It doesn’t seem right to let a girl choose me. I would rather choose the girl I devote myself to.” Taichi, you melt me like butter.

Day 1  Day 2 Day 2 (part 2)   Day 3   Day 4   Day 5   Day 6

Once again, I do hope people join me in this random journey of mine. I have two weeks left for vacation and I want to spend some time here. Cheers.

Sixty Day Anime Challenge: Most Epic Anime Scene (Day 8)

$
0
0

Oh, nice. This is such a vague thing that I can’t really just choose one. We’re talking about a scene though and I think that translate to a small moment. So, it’s the most epic small moment in anime. I have a lot of them but I’ll stick to my favorite seven epic anime scene. I think the word epic screw this up a bit. It’s talking about climactic moments, right? Fine. I’ll stick to that. Here are my favorite climactic anime scenes:

1. Classroom Thrashing

Anime: Aku no Hana

Let me make this clear. I hate this anime. The manga isn’t that good but the anime turned it into this pretentious show that makes it harder to appreciate whatever the hell the author was aiming for. It’s muddled between a coming of age story and one about two psychopaths falling in love. For the latter, their rebellious pent up sexual energy is eventually released in one epic scene. I think the two of them met in the classroom after dark and the girl decided to let loose. The guy went along and we are treated to a wonderful scene of pure madness. Ink on the wall, the chairs and tables thrashed and the two of them lying in the middle of it all is a pretty damn awesome moment. This is also were the rotoscope really shine through because the animation is absolutely amazing. Rotoscope is still an alienating style though even for anime standards hence the uproar for this anime.

2. I trust you

Anime: Haikyuu

This epic scene happens fast. Kageyama sets it up and tosses it. Hinata then immediately jumps and spike the ball to oblivion. It was a jaw dropping moment that made me love the anime. The scene was good by itself but I think the stunned look of the players made the scene even more special.

3. Darkness Flame Technique

Anime: Yu Yu Hakusho

1939110-zeru_fried

In their first match in the demon tournament, Yusuke’s team took on Team Rokuyukai. Hiei took on the stand in leader Zeru and this match happened fast. We never really know what Zeru’s fighting style is because we saw the very first time Hiei use his Darkness Flame Technique. It hit Zeru head on and, before you know it, the guy is turned to ashes. I think it was the fastest match ever and it absolutely stunned everyone.

4. Aomine and Taiga Zone Showdown

Anime: Kuroko no Basket 2

There are no words to properly describe this. The high level animation between two guys just going insane in the court is epic upon epic. Look at their team mates, they can barely believe it and they move so fast no one can keep up. This was the most satisfying re-match I have ever seen because it just blew expectations away. I knew it would be amazing but damn, this was beyond insane.

5. The Steady Top

Anime: Chihayafuru 2

This is a mellow scene but the setup is epic beyond words. Arata is considered the best karuta player right now that has a clear shot of beating the current king. He is up against the current queen, Shinobu, who is a monster player that no one in the women division is on par to dethrone her. They fought in the finals of one tournament and we exactly see how monstrous the two players are. Shinobu is trumped quite early on though as Arata calmly handed her ass to her. The epic scene would have to be Arata’s wonderful smile as he fights. It was compared to a spinning top that smoothly twirls without wobbling. He never showed concerned that he’ll be defeated. It’s so awesome that even Shinobu is enthralled by it.

6. Sinbad Appears

Anime: Magi 2

In the final moments of Magi, a giant ass monster appears and the various King Candidates all come together to kill it. The showdown itself is epic as we see overpowered characters do their absolute best to destroy the monster. It was one epic move after another that is so over the top awesome that it was worth sitting through all the dull episodes before it. The monster is beyond god mode though as it just brushes off anything the characters hit it. It came to a point that all the characters are tapped and the monster is winning. Out of the sky, Sinbad then comes crashing down turning a hopeless moment into one awesome over the top epic moment to close the show. The overpowered attacks then combined into an epic scene that seriously got me giddy with excitement.

7. “Hou”

Anime: Mouryou no Hako

The first scene of the anime involves two people riding a train. One is holding a box and talking to it while the other is woken up by the thing inside the box. The guy holding the box realized the other passenger heard the noise and showed him the content of the box. He opened the doors and a head of a girl adorned with flowers is inside. The head is very much alive even smiling. It gazes the room and then let out a “hou” sound that absolutely left the other passenger stunned. The audience is puzzled but it was a beautiful setup to one incredible anime.

Sixty Day Anime Challenge: Saddest Anime/Manga Scene (Day 9)

$

You can skip the manga because I don’t read them. For a big anime nerd, I am oddly never into manga. This is an interesting topic though. Sad scenes are something that sticks to you and I have a lot of them. Once again though, I’m sticking to seven moments. These are sad scenes for me because I cry easily and you can bet I cried a lot for these scenes. This is also the reason why I watch anime alone. Anyways, here are my top seven saddest scenes in anime.

7. Goodbye to Pork Bowl

Anime: Silver Spoon

tGxI2tJ

Silver Spoon is an anime about agriculture. The first episode featured a couple of third year students chopping the head off a chicken and the beautiful creature was still flapping and moving as blood gushes out of it. Oh, it’s also a coming of age story about our hero, Hachiken, as he slowly found a place he can truly belong in. He had this moral dilemma about live stocks being treated like…well…live stocks and he shared the audience’s sentiment on the gruesome aspect of agriculture. He had to accept it though but he struggled hard in the process. In one of his classes, he had to take care of a couple of pigs that he affectionately loved ever since they were born. He was especially close to the runt and he personally found a way to fatten the poor pig up so it doesn’t die like how most runts do.

He succeeded but then he had to say goodbye because the pig is just fat enough to be slaughtered with his siblings. Hachiken fought hard but eventually had to accept it. “That’s life” and it’s a brutal lesson. Hauling the pigs up the truck going to the slaughter house, you can’t help but cry as you see poor runt loaded with the rest. Silver Spoon made me care about a pig and I cried along with Hachiken.

6. Menma reveals herself

Anime: AnoHana

ano-hana1

Ano Hana is this show about a group of friends that drifted apart after one of their close friends died. They were never the same but then the dead girl came back as a ghost and asked one of their friends to help her move on. This means gathering the gang up and confront their inner demons over the friends they lost. This is problem though because these characters had wounds no one wants to re-open. Having one of them claim he can see the ghost of the dead girl is just unneeded tension for a group of people that is still trying to move on. The dead girl doesn’t want them to fight though so she tried her best to get them together. Amidst all the tension, the dead girl desperately tried to get things in order.

It was the moment they showed vulnerability and the moment they realized she is real that made this moment special. Plus that goddamn song that always comes at the most beautiful moments. A combination of all these things got me to cry hard.

5. Lion-san watches his girlfriend get married

Anime: Twin Spica

2009-04-07-155091

Lion-san is the main character’s childhood friend. He is also a ghost of an astronaut that died in a tragic accident. He has since decided to befriend the main character. In one really sad scene, we see Lion-san in a random wedding. Previously in the episode, we saw flashbacks of Lion-san and his girlfriend acting all cute together. After that, it is revealed that the wedding he is witnessing is his girlfriends as a sign that she has moved on with her life. He can only look on as he knows it himself that there’s nothing he can do about it.

4. Chimera

Anime: FMA

I’ve only ever saw the FMA version and it was really disturbing. I re-watch the clip in youtube and it still stirs some emotion in me. Tucker’s desperation, Edward’s anger, Alphonse’ naivety and the gruesome realization of what just happened combines into one of the saddest scene in any anime for me. The poor look on that Chimera. It’s haunting.

3. Akemi’s Depressing Journey

Anime: Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica

Akemi is this hard ass that would hover over Madoka throughout the series looking out for her in an anti-hero manner. Most of the girls would sit down and eat cake but Akemi didn’t want any of that. She is blunt and forceful but she didn’t start out that way. This girl is actually time travelling over and over trying to save Madoka’s life. The Akemi that first started out is as meek as Madoka eventually being convinced to become a magical girl through her hero, Madoka’s, insistence. When she realized everyone died, she used her powers to travel back in time. The meek girl did this process over and over seeing her close friends die again and again. Her desperation is saddening and her inability to help anyone is depressing. Akemi still presses on though hoping she would one day save her hero from their hopeless fate.

This messed me up. Sure, the headless magical girl is shocking but this deliberate pain Akemi puts herself through is just so sad. She hoped for change and hell, even the ending didn’t provide that. The ending had “hope” but not change. I think the movies tried to remedy that ending but I find it perfect as is so I don’t plan on watching those movies.

2. Town of Magma

Anime: Kino’s Journey

Kino is a traveller and he (I prefer him as a guy) has a rule that he would only stay in a country for just three days. In the last episode, she visited such a bright and happy town with an accommodating atmosphere that she was encouraged to stay more than three days. The villagers wouldn’t let her though and so she left in the third night. Upon reaching a high area very far from the town, Kino witnesses a volcano erupts and drowns the town in magma. Her talking motorcycle narrates it in such a horrid fashion:

The molten earth exploded and then ran down the side of the mountain. It was unstoppable. When the lava reached them, the blood in their bodies was boiled instantly. They had no chance of escape. There was nothing you could’ve done, Kino.

If you actually watch the episode again, you'll realize that every dialogue is sad and tense after knowing of this sad ending. They knew it was coming but they kept up a bold front and accepted their fate.

1. Setsuko dies

Anime: Grave of the Fireflies

This anime still haunts me. Her final words still haunts me.

Day 1  Day 2 Day 2 (part 2)   Day 3   Day 4   Day 5   Day 6   Day 7   Day 8

Sixty days is ireally goddamn long, huh? It's tough writing these things in advance though but I know time will be a hassle when work comes knocking back again. Anyways, what's the saddest scene for you?

Sixty Day Anime Challenge: Favorite Mecha Anime (Day 11)

$
0
0

This is another genre I don’t really care for. I grew up with Shounen so the appeal of giant robots is lost on me. This is also the reason I use to not watch Evangelion. Sue me. It took me a very long time to actually try the genre and I do get the excitement watching robots destroy each other. It’s a saturated genre now though and it’s hard to enjoy it when the stories aren’t all that good. I do have some favorites and I have seven mecha shows I genuinely enjoy watching. Anyways, let’s get this over with.

1. Code Geass

CODE.GEASS-.Hangyaku.no.Lelouch.full.44206

As I said, I like story in my anime and most mecha shows aren’t really plot heavy. Code Geass is a good exception. From the characters to the story, I think this is the only time the Gundam format (of teenagers spearheading a war against two groups) ever appealed to me. It’s mostly because of Lelouch and his bastard personality. Plus, zero requiem is one of my favorite moments ever. Oh yeah, the fights are pretty cool as well especially when characters from both camps are killed off.

2. TTGL

vgpenm (1)

This anime has this idea that every episode should operate on a climactic over the top moment designed to capture your short attention span. It was honestly perfected in Kill la Kill more but TTGL did it first so cheers to them. Something about a rag tag of humans fighting against monkeys is cool by default though. It then progresses into a freakin fight for the entire universe, it was insane.

3. Roujin Z

We have a futuristic nursing bed designed to take care of its elderly patient going rogue as it tears the city apart. Imagine Akira but more dark comedy than serious. The futuristic bed eventually goes out of control and decides to take its patient hostage and just go rabid ape sh*t. The animation is outstanding especially since it’s an 80s OVA and similar shows of that era involves gratuitous gore and penis headed monsters. None of which is in this anime. I think it was also a social commentary on the poor state of nursing homes and the government giving jack sh*t for its elderly members.

4. Gigantic Formula

Major countries in the world build their own robots and then fight tournament style to decide who gets to rule the world. I think that was the initial premise. It had country themed robots like America having the largest robot in the group with an arrogant pilot riding it. I think China has a fast robot and it has the greatest string of spies because chinese people are supposedly everywhere. It’s a stupid anime considering it was basically just trying to disillusion viewers into thinking Japan is an underdog country. The fights are interesting though and the concept of mega countries having robots has its novelty.

5. B't X

btx1

Some people grew up with Robotech or Captain Harlock. You all had the pleasure of getting knee deep into some really great space opera. I grew up with mecha as well but shows like Voltes Five or Daimos which is basically just soap opera but with gratuitous gore. It also had awful animation and it was localized so it turned me off dubbed for good. Then there’s Bt’ X. It’s about a bunch of Shounen characters having their own pet robots that fight each other. The concept is like pokemon but more one dimensional and iffy because I think the story is pretty straight forward. It features the main character going to an island that has enemies with pet robots. He then gets one of his own and attempts to rescue someone from the enemy boss. Every episode features our character fighting a bad guy until the last episode. I watched it when I was young. I mostly saw it for the robots. It was cool.

6. Broken Blade

Broken.Blade.full.594223

This is the most recent anime on this list. It's about two warring nations fighting using giant robots. The war plays out like a chess battle and the pieces are damn good at their job. There are ruthless generals, highly skilled pilots that can make their robots dance and even a bunch of sociopaths given a chance to just kill people. The story is really cerebral but then it gets balanced out by insane war-like mecha battles that is often a treat to watch. I hate the main character though but he didn't matter when you had characters fighting off mecha robots literally one legged and still winning.

7. Aquarion Evol

[gg]_Aquarion_EVOL_-_01_(42m)_[9A9E2BF9].mkv_snapshot_25.55_[2012.01.30_13.33.19]

This show is a subtle jab at the gundam format but it doesn’t take itself seriously. Characters ride a robot but they do it in pairs and the robot can only become powerful when the two pilots “combine” or something. The characters even moan while they do it. It was stupid. I didn’t care about the mecha though. I watched it for the characters and the wonderful character design. It’s so distinct that I can tell if the same artist is working on another show. Fun fact, she did. She did the design for the female characters of Mahouka and I knew that simply because of the way she draw the boobs. Oh, this is a mecha list. I got sidetracked. Please, no one watch Mahouka though. I curse that show to eternity.

Day 1  Day 2 Day 2 (part 2)   Day 3   Day 4   Day 5   Day 6   Day 7   Day 8   Day 9   Day 10

Boom. That’s day eleven. Ok then, what’s your favorite anime? And yes, Gonholio, NGE is in my backlog already.

Sixty Day Anime Challenge: Favorite Slice of Life Anime (Day 10)

$

0

Ah, god. This topic is something I hate. Slice of Life is actually a muddled genre now. Most of the stuff you see now is Slice of Life mixed with other genre. SoL with Comedy will give you Shibarako. SoL with drama will give you Horou Musuko. SoL with cute things will give you the entire f*cking filmography of KyoAni after K-on. So really, the actual SoL genre is boring as f*ck as in nothing really happens to it. It’s not magical by design and the topics are as close to life as possible. SoL is actually a genre no one should really watch and I think studios realized that as well so they tried to muddle the genre by mixing it with other genres. The result is a post hybrid incest offspring that we now call SoL. I’m guessing this topic relates to the incest offspring though so I’ll stick to that. If you’re curious, a true SoL anime is boring ass sh*t like Chibi Maruko-chan. No sane person should subject themselves to it.

Anyways, here’s my top seven hybrid incest offspring of the SoL genre.

7. Inari Konkon Koi Iroha

70cf71cd499d7dee36e6f68916b831f1

It’s a show about a local deity befriending a girl that always visited her small shrine. She decided to give some of her powers to the girl and the girl uses it to get close to the boy she likes. It’s heartwarming and cute because the romance is adorable. It captures the puppy dog experience of falling in love but also the sincerity that comes along with it.

6. Haibane Renmei

tumblr_m6yfspHZtC1rr6cyuo1_500

It’s a show about girls born from cocoons that eventually grow wings and gets a halo. It follows the new experiences of our main character after gaining her wings. It’s a show about friendship and even religion often focusing on enjoying the small things in life.  Rakka’s experiences are so vivid though that it’s easy to be entranced by the show. It’s a deep show but the pace is undeniably slow like a good SoL.

5. Daily Lives of High School Boys

It’s basically just like K-on but it features the juvenile humor that young boys enjoy doing rather than the typical cake eating scenario that K-On established. It had boys trying out their sister’s bra, boys getting jealous over classmates getting dates and other stupid things like that. It also has literary girl which is my favorite segment in any SoL anime ever.

4. Kimi to Boku

kimi-to-boku-03-3

It’s like a reversed K-on. It’s about a bunch of dudes acting cute together. It’s basically K-On but it’s one big sausage party. The show also has the same dull conversations that are accentuated by the guys acting cute or handsome. It’s a guilty pleasure of mine. Please don’t judge me. This also has some well-placed romance that captures the naivety of youth and also it’s lively rose colored experience.

3. Natsume’s Book of Friends

This anime is about a boy that possesses a book of signatures collected by his grandmother. These are signatures of supernatural beings she tried to befriend. Owning someone’s signature means you own them forever though so the beings tried to get it back. Grandma is dead though and Natsume has the same spiritual wavelength as her so the beings consider them one and the same. This show follows his adventures trying to give the signatures back.

This is also a show about loneliness. I think that’s the basic theme. It taps to that default nature of people longing to belong and loneliness is something people can easily relate to so that’s why this series is so potent. The individual stories of loneliness are strong but the joyous moments of reunion and belongingness also captivates. It also has a really cute cat that’s been GIF throughout eternity.

2. Junkers Come Here

It's read as yoonkers. This is a show about a child and a talking dog. This dog is also magical and I think it’s the first time we get a taste of Junichi Sato’s healing magic. This was a precursor to Aria so I put it in high regard because he was still mastering the healing genre at this point in time. This came out in 1995. It’s vintage as sh*t. Anyways, this show focuses on a child watching her parents’ relationship drift apart going through the process of divorce. The pain is beautifully presented but the show ended with no one getting divorced because of the magical dog or something. It’s a 1995 movie so cut it some slack.

1. Usagi Drop

Usagi_Drop_-_02_-_Large_01

It’s an anime about an old guy taking care of a child. The appeal is that it captures the trials and tribulation of parenting but with the added drama of two people destined to be together. I mean that literally. “I’d like to have your child because I know you’ll take good care of it.” This ruined me.

Day 1  Day 2 Day 2 (part 2)   Day 3   Day 4   Day 5   Day 6   Day 7   Day 8    Day 9

Sixty Day Anime Challenge: Post an Ecchi Picture of an Anime You Like (Day12)

$
0
0

Hehe. Haha. Ahahahahahaha.

Really? Really?! Post an Ecchi picture you like?

No fudging way. Best topic evah.

I’ll stick to my top seven format. Rest assured, there pictures are from an Ecchi anime and not Hentai. I’ve seen a fudge ton of ecchi anime so really, this list is easy. I think any casual fan can post their favorite ecchi picture easily. It’s a no brainer. Anime fans are hard wired to enjoy two things by default. One would be an absolute love for cute huggable things. The second would be boobs. Lots and lots of boobs.

I actually encouraged you all to post your favorite Ecchi pictures as well. It should come from the actual series and not a rule 34 type image though. Let’s keep this straight and narrow.

7. Battle Uniform

Anime: Kill la Kill

kill-la-kill-episode-3-2

Studio Trigger did a cheap trick when it turned the Ecchi up on the transformation scenes. The main goal is simply to stir up humdrum for the anime. Studio Trigger mainly appeal to western audiences and they know sh*t like this is fuel for feminist debate and people fell for it hard. Kill la Kill is now a very popular anime. Studio Trigger is smart because they took their own hype and created more hype to get people to pay attention to them. This certainly hit two, maybe even five birds with one stone. It satiated the Japanese craving for fan service and the western’s overreaction for the same thing. It also created hype and attention for the show. It created a lively discussion for the show and also inspired a f*ck ton of cosplayers into quickly cosplaying this. Thank you Studio Trigger.

6. Ass

Anime: High School DxD

med_1411424868_1400856878_image

I don’t want to post exposed anything in this list even though this anime is mostly famous for its uncensored content. Studio TNK actually rose to prominence because it decided to get risky and air this anime uncensored. Most shows cave into censoring their stuff fearing their show would be relegated to non prime time slots or worse even pulled off the air. That sh*t happens a lot but TNK didn’t care and the world was introduced to Highshool DxD. EVERY episode is filled with filthy content including title cards before and after commercials having the characters in suggestive positions. It was an awesome time to be an anime fan. My favorite would have to be the ending sequence though where the characters are dressed up like sluts and they danced like strippers. It even had a stripper pole. My favorite character wiggled her ass in a loop I immediately GIF-ed and stored deep into my laptop.

5. Tentacle Monsters I

Anime: Manyuu Hikenchou

This anime is about boobs. The main character’s boob grows large every time she defeats an opponent. She would take their boobs then add it to hers using her special sword. This particular image is just a random throw away fan service gag but it also reflects the desire of the Japanese to have sex with octopus. True story. Tentacle porn’s origin is old like any weird tradition of Japan.

4. Apron Cooking

Anime: Free

nanase-haruka-apron-swimsuit

I said that we were hard wired to enjoy boobs and cute things. We are also hard wired to repress our pent up gayness. I saw one episode of this anime and I can no longer unsee it. From the mother*cking ending sequence to the random shots of the character’s crotch, this is actually the only anime I know that is considered an Ecchi anime targeted for girls. Try to disprove it. Between the characters taking their shirts off to the suggestive nature of the show clearly targeted to BL obsessed fanfic writers, this anime is so intense I only lasted one episode. Let that sink in.

3. Tentacle Monsters II

Anime: Seikoku Dragonar

The main appeal of this anime is that is also pushes the boundaries by giving us Hentai quality tentacle action in free TV. Yes, damn it. Highly detailed fully high quality animated tentacle raping in all its glory in a harmless Ecchi anime. I have more screenshots here and here……and here and here and here.

2. Motorcycles get her off

Anime: Golden Boy

hqdefault

The girl can only get off by revving her motorcycle. She claims no man can satisfy her and then our main character sees her full on master bating (I intentionally misspelled that). I want to present a GIF of it but I’ll settle for this picture. Watch it here.

1. Boob Matrix

Anime: Highschool of the Dead

Speaking of things that needs to be GIF-ed. I’ll break my own rule for this one. Are you not entertained?!

Sixty Day Anime Challenge: Your Anime Waifu? or Husband? (Day 13)

$

This one is pretty stupid. I'm not really someone that gets overly obsessed with one character to the point I want to declare her my waifu. I'm not that kind of anime fan even though I am pretty hardcore. I also don't have posters on my room or any figma. I just watch sh*t so I'm the most uninspiring anime fan ever. No, not otaku, I find that term derogatory. By waifu, does it mean a character you want to be with? Though I know the term is someone you masterbate to or something. I have anime crushes and I guess I have one for waifu and husband-o. Let's just get this over with.

For waifu? It'd be Mix from Aquarion Evol. I am in love with her character design. The combination of the color purple and orange looks unflattering and she even have an overall on. She stands out on places where it counts though. Her face has a wonderful combination of flesh color that I actually color pick in photoshop and found it dreadful to use on my own original characters. Her eyes are stunning, her boobs are excellent (thumbs up) and her outfit is adorned with a lot of lovely ribbons. When I first saw her, I instantly liked her mainly because she screams original in a concept that sounds horrid.

Aquarion-Evol-image-aquarion-evol-36812361-1280-720

For husband-o, I'd be lying if I said there aren't any anime guy that awakened something dark inside me. I watched a sh*t ton of reverse harem shows to the point that I no longer mind if I am attracted to one dimensional hot guys. I was watching this one sadist anime about vampires dominating a girl and this particular scene just worked for me. He was mean to the girl and then he just had this dialogue about wrapping the girl's bleeding arm until it rot and fell off her body. It didn't mean anything but it oddly clicked for me. I think the character is Reiji from Diabolik Lovers. It's not his looks but the limitless potential he could do to torture the girl that worked for me. Let's end this.

Alright. Next one and hopefully, no more dumb topics like this one. They're 2D characters. Why would you want them to be your wife? It doesn't really do anything. It just makes us weird and most anime fans are already weird what with Boku no Pico and BL fanatics out there.

I believe this one is a gimme. Well, there are sixty days so they had to make some topics dull and pointless like this one. I do have an anime wallpaper and I believe I already mentioned how much I love Mix's character design. I'll change my wallpaper after I find a character design more original than Mix's. So far none unless you folks know of some original anime designers I can hopefully emulate.

Sixty Day Anime Challenge: Post a Neko Girl (Day 15)

First off, I want to give the spotlight to the myIGN resident that have been posting nekogirls for the past....sh*t, it's a really long time. I've been here five years but I think he's been doing it longer than that. I think he is also the first anime blogger in this gaming site. It's crazy. I know. I'm talking about foxrevolution so give him a follow.

Now this is a topic that I like. I'll now be posting my top seven favorite cat girls in anime. I'll be listing down actual cat girls and not characters in cat ears. It's an excuse to not post K-on sh*t in my blog because I really hate that show. It needs to die. If I had a time machine and I could change only one thing, it'd be K-on. It's be K-on. Anyways, these are cat girls from an anime series and these are my top seven.

7. Yoko

Anime: Inukami!!

inukami

This anime is about a shaman or something and his spirit companion that is in human form. They take supernatural assignments that eventually turn stupid and idiotic. Yoko is the jealous type that has a weird hold on the main character. She also abuses him when he gets too close to other girls. It's your typical side kick character and technically, she is missing the cat ears but she does have a tail so that's something, right? I think the entire female cast is actually cat girls and one of the shamans has a harem of them.

6. Taruto

Anime: Magical Meow Meow Taruto

MNNT6

I think this is actually a kid's show with much of the episodes actually about nothing except the characters having fun. I think I was also heavily drunk when I finished this anime but the weirdest part is that i distinctly remember our character being short so she is actually a cat in the show but they are anthromorphized. The show's main hook though is that we have a living breathing cat girl in our presence wrapped in all the cute fluff 2001 can give us

5. Haru Yoshioka

Anime: The Cat Returns

cat_page5_pic1

Our main character turned into a cat at some point in the movie, right? Hey, I'm listing seven cat girls. I can cheat a little. This is actually one of my favorite Ghibli movies mainly because it wasn't directed by Hayao Miyazaki. I don't like him and I basically refuse to watch anything he has made so far. The Cat Returns is still heavily watched over by Miyazaki upon development though. This movie doesn't have much visual quality you'd expect for a Studio Ghibli movie mainly because it's always been treated as a B movie and the death of up and coming Yoshifumi Kondou, who did a masterful job with Whisper of the Heart, killed interest in the project. This movie still made money though despite the rough journey it had. if you notice, a lot of non Miyazaki directed movies always have a B movie feel to it as if it was not good enough like Only Yesterday and Pom Poko. It's a big reason why I don't like Miyazaki.

4. Eclair Martinozzi

Anime: Dog Days

dog_days-06-eclair-blush

She's the adorable tsundere in the show. The green hair with the cat ears and the adorable shorts makes her one of my favorite characters in the show. The anime is also a bit "blah" with it's friendly war concept. I believe no one dies but they turn into big fluff balls instead. The stereotypical tsundere like her nicely stands out in a crappy concept like that. She also got aggressively cute in the second season getting it on with the main character so I like her a lot.

3. Tsubasa Hanekawa

Anime: Bakemonogatari

bakemonogatari hanekawa tsubasa 2000x1249 wallpaper_www.animemay.com_48

This is a franchise that is being constantly milked by Shaft at the moment. I am frankly quite sick of it. They should move on because Bakemonogatari is overstaying it's welcome. I love the cat girl arc though. I believe a cat spirit got hold of this super uptight girl in glasses.During their summer vacation, the cat spirit would control the girl's body and let out some steam because of her pounding stress. I forgot how it was resolved though. The main character got beaten within an inch of his life though and I believe cat girl got a showdown with the vampire but it's all murky now. Shaft has a way of making fan service work into the story though so I still fully remember our cat girl in pajamas with her cleavage popping out. It's poetic and beautiful.

2. Blair The Witch

Anime: Soul Eater

HkEHlFc

I think she was just there for fan service. Sweet sweet fan service. The busty cat girl that is also a witch works on so many levels. I love the cast of Soul Eater. Blair is a close second to Medusa's child version. Both had their own screwed up appeal that works for me.

1. Holo

Anime: Spice and Wolf

Well+then+here+s+some+shows+that+have+dubs+_44b402647491ac68fcab57275581b39b

Of course, who else? The most popular cat girl ever!!!!

I have seen Spice and Wolf a long time ago but I still remember it for being one of the best light novel adapted anime out there. It's special now considering a lot of them are sh*t nowadays. Mahouka sucks. Don't watch it. It is also successful because of the wonderful exchanges between the two characters. They have a mature relationship that comes off as playful teasing and you rarely see it in anime. I should know because I've been digging up shows trying to find the same thing and it's all high school puppy dog romances. You'll never see another show with flirting disguised in heavy dialogue. Lastly, it introduced Holo naked. II don't remember the show's plot but I still remember this scene. They should remake this anime.

And that's that. Work life resumes tomorrow and I need to update my other site. I am excited and a bit terrified but I'm sure it'll be fine. I promise to finish this sixty day challenge and I'll keep on powering through.

Sixty Day Anime Challenge: Favorite Manga (Day 16)

$

0

This is awkward.

As a firm anti-manga anime fan, because I grew up in an era where manga knows it all belittled us humble anime fans, I don't read manga. I just never really got into it as well. I learned early on that I can process more information when I watch things. Reading feels like studying to me and it demotivates me. I once tried to read a Paulo Coehlo book but I completely regretted it because I could've finished it faster if I just watched a half hearted adaptation of it.

I am slowly trying to become more tolerant of manga. As an anime reviewer, you often need to understand the mangaka's intention and then realize how much the anime f*cked it up. It happens a lot and I am also judging character design through the manga instead of the anime for my reviews. I often read the first chapter of an anime I previously watched just for my reviews. I think I'll come to a point where I;ll be fully interested in reading a manga but that day is not now.

I have read some manga but they're mostly one shots. I tried a few series here and there and I guess this list reflects my crappy journey into manga. By all means, leave your recommended manga in the comments below. I guess this is the only seven manga I managed to read in my entire life. Seriously, it's pathetic.

1. Koi no Kamisama

1

A girl is loved by God so much that he does not let anyone come near here. Any boy that likes her and dare tries to go ut with her would meet a final destination like accident simply because the girl is his one and only precious. One boy is so persistent to love the girl though that he would dare take on the big man upstairs. I read this manga as a recommendation from the girl I used to date. She was heavy into yaoi and I like freaky girls like her. We lasted long until she had to move and she personally broke it off. Anyways, one shot manga is usually a way for an unknown artist to get themselves established. It's usually filled with wonderful visual imagery while also flaunting their artistic style. This one is notable because the mangaka soon gave us Nisekoi. I've never seen it but I'm sure it's good.

2. Watching TV all the time makes you stupid

2

This was recommended to me by a close MAL friend. She said I'll like it because I'm a cynical assh*le. I was so I tried it. It's a story of a cynical otaku being helped by a therapist or something. The story turns weird where the therapist got drawn into the negative vibe the otaku had going. In the end, they committed suicide but the visual narrative is odd. Most of the panels are the same and it was weird for a one shot because one shots are basically your resume in some form. This one shot is unique though because the humor is the main appeal and it was so deadpan that I heavily thanked my friend for recommending it.

3. Doubt

3

I tried this again, because a friend recommended it to me. I don't go blind with manga like anime. It's weird. I know. Doubt is a psychological thriller where a group of people a locked in an area so they can play this popular cellphone game called Rabbit Doubt. Basically, the game is about finding out who is the wolf hiding in the rabbit group. Each round, the wolf eats a rabbit until he is found. The game is made real life and people are killed, paranoia is high and characters turned on each other. The ending is madly predictable though but I did enjoy this one in the long run. The dark gritty art style is beautiful and the narrative was tense. I think the mangaka got massively popular for this series.

4. 100 dollars is too cheap

4

I love this one shot. It's about a couple of curious people trying to solve this itching riddle of why one of the wanted posters put up by the sheriff is too cheap. The build up of the story is really wonderful and the mystery behind the wanted poster will make you smile. I saw this one on a random forums board and if I were to recommend one shot, it'd be this. I promise you, you'll love it. It's a shame the mangaka never made more stuff after it because this one shot is a gem.

5. Your Fault

5

I saw this anime called Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san and it was a shoujo ai anime. It's girl on girl action. When I saw the manga for my review, the damn thing is yuri. It's girl on girl but more risky and hot like girl's licking each other's leg among other things. Intrigued by how the mangaka can create innocence and filth in the same panel, I read one of he works. Unfortunately, I pick a goddamn hentai one shot. It's netorare. It's an umbrella of hentai where a good girl is in a platonic relationship with some guy too chicken to make a move on her. Good girl sudedenly meets horny bad boy and forces her to accept that she is in fact a very dirty girl by basically succumbing her to her primal orgasm. Netorare shines because good guy knows good girl is with bad boy having rough sex but he can't do anything about it because he's a wimp. Your Fault is Netorare but the characters are all girls. Yuri sex is always interesting for me but the mangaka just takes the concept of "moe" and turn it into something you'll regret, sexually. I admire this manga because visual imagery is one thing but the netorare appeal is a double plus.

6. Fruits Basket

6

i did not finish the manga because I don't like the drawing. I only realized how beautiful this manga is after a quick re-reading. The visual narrative is very beautiful. The drawing is really rough but there is a subtle beauty to how feminine each panel appears as. It captures the wonderful appeal of the shoujo genre in a way that other mangaka tried to emulate later on. Fruits Basket is a treasure and I should try finishing the manga sometime before I kick the bucket.

7. The World God Only Knows

7

The premise easily hooked me but I stopped reading when I heard an anime was announced. The idea of a guy conquering girls in video games and then applying it in real life just sounds like a fun concept for a story. I think I finished twenty chapters in one sitting because it was just that good. The visuals are incredible and the use of the stereotypes is fun to watch. I mostly got irked though when people started b*tching about the anime not being faithful to the manga. I was like "what?". Stupid privilege manga fans always think they're better than most people for seeing the original source first. It really pissed me to the point I was turned off manga for good. KanaHana as the library girl is the best thing that happened to me in 2009, btw.

Day 1  Day 2 Day 2 (part 2)   Day 3   Day 4   Day 5   Day 6   Day 7   Day 8   Day 9   Day 10   Day 11   Day 12   Day 13   Day 14   Day 15

Done! Sixty days is a long time. I really bit more than I can chew but I promised to finish this so stay tune for the next post. See ya around. Again, I'm open for recommendations since I am a noob when it comes to manga.

Sixty Day Anime Challenge: Favorite Tsundere (Day 17)

$
0
0

This is another fun topic. I think everyone has their own favorite tsundere. These are characters that act cold and harsh towards someone they like but would be friendly and clingy when they're alone. Tsun tsun dere dere has been a staple stereotype for a lot of anime. Sometimes, it doesn't function properly without one. But the tsundere stereotype has wonderfully evolved throughout the years. I believe the term started out as someone that just doesn't admit their love towards another person and would violently deny it. It's like an umbrella of moe but the stereotype's popularity slowly transformed it. Now, tsunderes are girls in pig tails with a higher than thou attitude that is often a rich girl that acts arrogant towards others. They'll easily start blushing though at the sight of their crush.

For this list, I would list down seven of my favorite tsundere. I'll narrow the list down to characters that have a male crush though so moeblobs seen in Lucky Star and any other four panel show does not apply. I believe a true tsundere hides her feelings and not just act like "It's not like I'm following you home or something!!!! *BLUSH* that often cheapens the stereotype. I won't be just listing down pig tailed characters though since some of the best tsunderes doesn't conform to that standard.

Spoilers, Asuka is not in this list. I have not seen Evangelion yet. :p

7. Sena Kashiwazaki

Anime: Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai

1

This hot big breasted blond joined this club to help gain friends. The anime center around the characters basically just goofing off but there was also this underlying love triangle in the show. It was eventually fleshed out more in the second season. Sena is your typical tsundere. She would belittle the main character and make fun of him but she is also madly in love with him. She eventually confessed to guy but got rejected harshly and it totally bummed me out as well. How can you reject a girl as busty and sexy as this one? That's like turning down free steak. Sena is a big favorite of mine as well because she spent majority of her time in the show playing visual novels and acting all flustered during sex scenes. I do hope she ends up with the main character. They look good together.

6. Taiga Asaka

Anime: Toradora

2

A sentimental favorite for a lot of you myIGN bastards. I honestly saw this one when I saw in highschool so I am murky on how great ToraDora actually is. I do remember Taiga though. She is the palmtop tiger that nobody likes to approach and she is paired up with a guy that's named dragon. There;s a japanese legend of these two beings fighting or something. Anyways, Taiga is a wonderful tsundere. She gets flustered easily and she acts all high and mighty but would cave like a wounded kitten. She is also voiced by the queen of tsunderes, Rie Kugimiya who also voiced Shana and Louis. These are two well known tsunderes as well basically sharing the exact appeal as Taiga but I gotta go with the sentimental favorite. Please don't hurt me.

5. Emi Yusa

Anime: Hataraku Maou-sama

maxresdefault

This show is about the demon lord who command a war to overthrow the world suddenly being transported to Earth, to Japan and then forced to live the life of a minimum wager. He now works at Mcdonalds and he is actually pretty happy about it. He escaped because a holy knight bested all the plans he conjured and he was destined to die. That's why the knight chased after him to Japan. This knight is Emi and she is now a call center agent living the ordinary life as well. Emi is obviously hot blooded towards the demon lord but she soon realized what a stand up guy he actually is and slowly started to have feelings for him. It's classic tsundere. She doesn't think much of him first but she soften up as the anime progresses. I also remember fondly the scene where the demon lord was cradling Emi while she blushed all over. It's cute.

4. Azuki Azusa

Anime: Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko

4

Another classic tsundere true to the formula. We have an uptight rich girl that belittle others but is actually seeking a more personal relationship with others. The anime is about a wish granting cat statue and I remember she made a wish but I forgot what it was. Either way, she is crushing hard on our main character trying to get her and the resident kuudere to play nice. She eventually realizes what a stand up guy the main character is and slowly falls for him even going as far as being jealous when he is around other girls. She would smile like a child when she sees him coming, gets jealous of other girls and also blushes like a true wonderful tsundere. Also, you have to check out this anime's ED. It's adorable.

3. Kaname Chidori

Anime: Full Metal Panic

5

Kaname is the beautiful girl that is poorly in love with a military freak. FMP is about a guy protecting a high school girl. While he is a high school kid himself, he grew up training in the military and practically has no idea how society works outside military reach. While guarding Kaname, he found a way to be so cool that he got the girl hooked. Kaname is your classic tsundere though. She won't admit her love but she also quietly revel in it. She's not entirely at fault though because she does send signals that our military boy is sadly oblivious with. It should be noted that FMP is mostly known for its second season, FMP: Fumoffu, handled by a small time studio back then known only as Kyoto Animation.

2.  Haruhi Suzumiya

Anime: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

6

Speaking of Kyoto Animation, this is probably the one that got them on the map. While they have a wide following in the anime disctirt, they gain world wide acclaim with this girl that doesn't know she is a god. Haruhi is not your traditional tsundere. Her arrogant attitude and unpleasant personality often overpowers her classic stereotype. The story is so good that you barely noticed her tsundere personality of quietly wanting our poor main character to herself. Subtlety is one of the most beautiful things about this anime and it's that one component that made the ending so much sweeter. Endless Eight ruined that though. You wait for years for a second season and then you had to endure eight episodes of the same sh*t. It's basically turd slinging in the most horrible way because we still trust KyoAni a lot despite their d*ckmove.

1. Misaka Mikoto

Anime: A Certain Magical Index / A Certain Scientific Railgun

A character so awesome that she had her own spin off. Misaka is one of the most powerful students in the school city where she attends. She came across our main character during one rendezvous capturing a criminal and they had instant chemistry. She is also a classic tsundere where she would mock our main character but also blush wildly when he is around. Her bad ass attitude trumps whatever tsundere stereotype she has though. The first time you see her launch a coin with her electricity is the first time you understand why this particular character get her own f*cking show. Her show is even better than the main series. It's ridiculous.

Day 1 Day 2 Day 2 (part 2) Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Day 6 Day 7 Day 8 Day 9 Day 10 Day 11 Day 12 Day 13 Day 14 Day 15   Day 16

What in the blue hell is happening with the comments? It happened so suddenly. I believe it happened overnight so what in actual f*ck? Oh well, it's not like we can do anything about it. The best option now is to forget that DISQUS ever existed and accept this new one as our new reality.

Ok then. This is another gimme. Sixty days is a long time so I'm glad there are fluff choices like this one. I have one show I was supposed to review, like, a month ago but I keep putting it off because it's boring. I'll post a screenshot below.

sakuratrick24

It's an anime called Sakura Trick. I'm literally on the last episode but I am procrastinating hard to finish it. I think I'll finish the show tonight and finally write the review tomorrow. It's a shoujo ai show. It's girl on girl action and the two main characters actually kisses a lot of times in the anime. It's the big reason why I can't finish it. I have a lot of complaints but eh, I'll save it for the review.

Day 1 Day 2 Day 2 (part 2) Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Day 6 Day 7 Day 8 Day 9 Day 10 Day 11 Day 12 Day 13 Day 14 Day 15   Day 16  Day 17

Sixty Day Anime Challenge: Favorite Moe Scene (Day 19)

$
0
0

Ah f*ck me. Why the hell is this a topic? When I was reviewing anime, I realized two things. I have a side of me that is attracted to BL anime and that I really really hate moe anime. Moe is cute in normal people terms but the term goes deeper than that. Moe is something so cute you want to hug it or protect it from harm. It's basically a fluffy kitten that can make you go "awww". So anime that can get you to go "damn, that is adorable" is a moe show. I hate it. I hate moe. I hate it because I know deep down in my core, as in super deep down in my DNA, I love this cute stuff. Anime fans are hardwired to like moe shows. It's a staple. Basically any show has cuteness in it. A shounen show like Yu Yu Hakusho would have a mascot that is adorable and cute. Even something like Death Note has moe through Misa. It's inescapable and it'll be a subliminal thing if you watch a lot of anime. Especially the ones in this day and age. I'm starting to shake off this moe though. I try to avoid it because if I watch one, I know I will like it and I will forever love it.

Anyways, let's get this one done fast. Here are my top seven favorite scenes that made me go "f*ck, that is f*cking adorable". I'm not proud of this sh*t but you cannot escape cuteness. I bet some of you bastards can actually do a top twenty list of this topic. I hate you all.

1. Chuunibyou!!

Anime: Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai

I refuse to post any K-on here. It's hard enough already with this topic. If I had to choose one KyoAni show though then it'd be Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai or Chuunibyou, Love and other Drugs. It's about a guy who recently had eight grade syndrome being confronted by a girl that is in full on eight grade syndrome. It's this phase you get into where you role play about stuff. Ever play fight pretending your broom is a light saber? Eight grade syndrome is basically people who are convinced they are whoever they role play. It's a fun thing.

This scene is in the first episode where the main character is abusing the girl so she won't tell everyone in school that he used to have eight grade syndrome. The animation is the big key factor here. The delay before she held her head and kneel down and the delay for her to wither in pain before looking up are subtle small details that make this cute scene ten times more cuter. KyoAni is a master at cute things and it's because of the highly detailed animation. No other studio can match it on a consistent basis except two (Production IG and A-1 Pictures) but they don't do cute sh*t.

2. The Assistant

Anime: Black Jack

I don't really follow Black Jack that well. I only see it in TV from time to time and sometimes, I only catch the ending. I think the show is about a miracle doctor that can perform any kind of surgery most people consider impossible but for a very hefty price. He once asked for 100 billion to perform surgery on a master computer or something. He gets sh*t done though and that's why he is so sought after. This cute scene is the ending sequence of the show where the assistant goes about her everyday routine. She acts as the adorable sidekick to the doctor and also his overprotective wife thing or something.

Two things to note here. The song makes it all the more adorable thanks to Ai Otsuka's amazing voice. The lyrics is more aggressive though about someone declaring their love to another upfront with all cards on the table. It's a bit more sexual than that though.. You gotta love the language barrier. Secondly, this girl is actually eighteen years old or so. Maybe older. She is also not an ordinary human. She's a tumor removed from a small girl. She was supposed to be a twin but things turned japan-y so the doctor gave her a cute shell body and took her in. Adorable, isn't?

3. Nyanko-sensei

Anime: Natsume Yuujinchou

This guy serves as the adorable portion of the show to balance out the tear jerking content of each episode. There's not much to say here. Nyanko-sensei is one of the most GIF-ed characters you will ever stumble upon next only to f*cking K-on. How could you not GIF the hell out of this cat? Look at him. Look harder!!!! I know you went "awww". I can hear it through the monitor screen.

4. Chii

Anime: Chobits

Moe works on so many levels. Sometimes, it can't just be a straightforward cute scene about little girls eating pancakes. Nah, sometimes, you have to sexualize it. The idea is that these innocent girls are oblivious that they are doing something sexy so that makes it adorable as well. This is the basic foundation for Chobits. It's a very dirty show but its cloaked in innocence that you can let a five year old watch it and only be entranced by the cute girl robots. They don't know that the on/off switch of these robots are in their vajayjay and they certainly don't know that the persocon are living sex dolls. The cute things distract them so it all works out.

I have a lot of adorable Chii moments and this one is just a small part of it. This is the episode where Chii went off to buy panties. Her innocence makes it fun to watch but the underlying sexual nature of the scene is also a big reason why I love it. There are also scenes where Chii mimics her master and even once mimicked a cat. She's just adorable. Sexy too but don't tell five year old girls that.

5. Chiyo is adorable

Anime: Azumanga Daioh

People claim Azumanga Daioh is the very first anime that features "cute girls doing cute things". I disagree with that but I don't really have evidence to disprove it. Azumanga Daioh is the first one to get popular outside Japan though and so maybe people just tacked on that fact due to no other shows of its kind was ever released till, like, five or so years later. Either way, this scene is cute. It features the smallest character in the show having a small segment just singing while cooking. When I first saw this anime, it was pretty boring. I think it had three school festivals highlighting the girls' entire high school life. The comedy is dry on some portions often only being saved by Osaka, the scene stealer. Aside from Osaka, the cuteness is really the only good thing about the show I can remember.

Notice this anime's age though. Early 2000s shows define cute girls with big bug eyes and an even bigger head complete with a grating annoying voice. The technology in animation improved cute girls though and the design is improved greatly as testament to KyoAni's perfection of the "cute girl" idealism. It's also a great reminder that I am old so let's stop this.

6. What about the chickens?

Anime: Non Non Biyori

Renge Miyauchi is the scene stealer in this anime. Most of these cute girl doing cute things show often have one character that naturally stands out. Azumanga has Osaka and K-on has Azunyan. Renge is the character that has the best moments in this anime. It's a show about girls in a rural backwater town in Japan and it showcases the daily life there where people pick herbs in the forest, get overly excited over people who have been in the city and attends one class because there are only five kids in the entire town. It's an adorable show and personally, one of my favorite cute girl doing cute things kinda show.

This scene is a random one where Renge is just singing and then she simply stole it all with her randomness.

7. Ultra Cat Lover

Anime: Cuticle Detective Inaba

Moe isn't just limited to little girls. As a testament to the flexibility of this subgenre, it has been mixed with gore, psychological thriller and even BL. Boy's Love is basically a subtle gay term where the characters are all gay to each other but in japanese anime standard. Okay, context for this one. Basically the show operates on this idea that the characters are all cool handsome faced shounen guys but they have a soft side to them. The guy was kidnapped because the bad guys are planning to lure his comrades in a trap when they rescue him. He wasn't fazed by their threats and tried to walk out the door. He is a hardcore cat lover though and when he saw a huge ass cat blocking the door...cuteness ensues.

Cuticle Detective Inaba is a pure comedy show though. It is hard to appreciate because it's all gags but it does have gold moments like this one. I noticed though that I GIF a lot of my favorite cute scenes myself. This is why I hate this stuff. I often get too into it. Anyways, I'm done.

What's your favorite cute scene? Please, no K-on. :p
