Some great fans of anime here in this community decided to join together and contribute in this little project of mine. The last time I did this, we asked them to give us some great anime that people should see before they die. It's a success because it was able to capture the communal spirit of the project and get Narutards angry when they realized Naruto wasn't on the list. This time around, I got them to provide anime moments. These are anime moments that are near and dear to them....or just stupid cool that mesmerized them as anime fans. The turn out was much bigger than the last project and it's only natural that the list reflects that. Originally a top 100 moment, I expanded the list to a top 150. This is myIGN's top 150 greatest anime moments that defined our life...or maybe just our anime viewing experience. Either way, this list is crazy fun.
Last year (2013) during the month of June, I asked myIGNers to join in this project. All they have to do is give us their top twenty anime moments posted in a blog of theirs. I pool in the moments and personally ranked them. If you disagree with the rank then I apologize. This wasn't easy for me. There are a lot of moments and I did wrestle back and forth on whether the ranking is impartial. I also had a hard time cutting some moments out despite having huge 150 limit. The list now complete though and I hope you're as excited as I am. Every week, I'll be continuing the countdown. It's the best I can do since I am goddamn busy with my life and my own little wordpress site. Anyways, this is your list (even though I was quoted way too much in this). This is a bunch of anime enthusiasts' list. This is myIGN's list.
Enjoy.
Here's a rundown of the blog format. The person that gave the moment is mentioned first then the anime.
The "moment" section is where there'll be a brief description of the moment given by either me or the actual author. It all depends on whether they provided a description or not. Majority didn't.
The "love" section" came from the actual person that provided the moment. This is where the people who contributed the moment will be quoted.
The "Some more love" is where a bunch of gracious "critics" comments on the moment some more giving their insight on things.
"A sampling" is where the actual moment is presented by either picture or GIF. I opted not to use video unless necessary.

The anime: Danganronpa The Animation
The moment: Danganronpa is a game about a bunch of kids forced to kill each other in order to escape imprisonment by a maniacal stuff bear. It’s a cool mix of Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney and the usual visual novel stuff that was good enough to get a sequel. The rule of the game is that in order to leave the place you have to kill someone. These are innocent kids so there’s a problem right there. The ultimate twist though is that after a murder, the kids have a chance to become detectives and find out who the culprit is. If they don’t or guessed incorrectly then they all die and the actual killer escapes. If they discover the killer then that person dies instead.
The moment happened in the third episode after Leon was discovered to be the killer. He was promptly punished. He was chained to a post and a barrage of baseball fired at a high speed was aimed at him. He died by being baseballed to death.
The love: This was the moment that really made the show special. Here it is. You’re all f*cked. Good luck surviving.
I also like how the anime took the actual cutscene from the game. That was a nice touch.
Some more love: “One of the more brutal kills in Danganronpa, but I don’t know if it’s an all-time best moment. ” –Fierce Alchemist

The anime: Full Metal Alchemist
The moment: In episode 30 of FMA, Armstrong and Sig Curtis first meet in a meat shop. They both decided to show off their muscles without saying a word and than shaked each other's hands as a sign of respect afterwards. This scene was not adapted in the FMA Brotherhood remake.
The love: I loved Full Metal Alchemist but for some reason this was the only extremely memorable moment I could think of, despite it being one of my favorite anime. This was just a really funny confrontation. No words were spoken; both men just ripped of their shirts and proceeded to flex their muscles until they both reached a point of respect.
Some more love: “Haha, this was such a great moment.” –Gonholio
“Okay now. Armstrong, I was already convinced that you were gay, but Sig? I expected better from you than to get caught up in his flamboyant tendencies. Yeah, I dunno, but for some ungodly reason, whenever two muscle-bound men from the FMA-verse meet for the first time, they're obligated to pose for one another. It's super hilarious, though, I can say that.” –MaxVolume
“Hilarious and yet badass and manly. Pretty much epitomizes what makes Armstrong great.” -FierceAlchemist

The anime: Darker than Black
The moment: In episode 11 of the anime, Hiei was asked to infiltrate the PANDORA institute located inside the giant wall. This where we actually get to see inside the Gate. I was originally going to choose any moment within the Gate but that's pretty ridiculous.
The entire series talked about and highly teased the events that happened a long time ago inside the wall. It was so disastrous that it has been sealed off and an unspeakable conspiracy has been going on afterwards. The desolate place inside wall gave us an insight at exactly what happened there.
The love: I love this episode because it shows a human side of Hei along with a girl losing her mind. It also talks about the Gate, which until this point hasn't really been discussed. Or maybe it was and I'm just not remembering it right.
Some more love: “Gawd, I remember watching this anime in my room during my college days. The story about Hiei infiltrating the wall had a nice buildup to it and the events that happened inside is pretty freaking awesome as well.” -Karuhi

The anime: Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni (When They Cry)
The moment: This moment is within the first 30 seconds of the anime. You see a boy standing over two girls who have been beaten to death with a baseball bat. Immediately you think, "WHAT. THE. FUCK?!?!" and you'd be right to think that. This anime is full of moments like that.
The love: I love an anime that gives me that "WHAT. THE. FUCK?!?!" feeling and I fell in love with this anime within the first 30 seconds of the show. There's no background to this moment yet but I love how they just dropped this on the viewer.
Some more love: “This opened the show and then the OP song afterwards. It was a teaser of the things to come but I distinctly remember the show being nothing but cute fluff in the first episode but the nagging moment of the guy beating two girls to death was still at the back of my mind. The rest of the episodes had needles inside foods, a stalker and all the cute fluff vanishing into a sea if paranoia. The first few seconds was a great way to open this dark and disturbing but also oddly cute show.” -Karuhi

The anime: Queen’s Blade The Exiled Virgin (season 1)
The moment: In episode 1, the main character decided to gather her courage and fight this strong bunny girl that shoots acids from her nipples. Our main character is a pampered woman that would seriously wet her panties at the sight of danger. It was different this time. She didn’t fear the acid rain that emerged from this monster’s nipples and decides to hug the woman to stop her from spewing acid. Her breast clad in armor pressed against Melona’s breast that caused a build-up of the acid in her breast. It grew abnormally to a critical point and exploded thereafter. You cannot f*cking make this sh*t up.
The love: If you made it past this point in Queen’s Blade congrats. This is where I quit the first time I watch it. Exploding bunny girl boobs… enough said…
Some more love: “WOO! Boobies!” –gonholio
“Yeah. Of course, I’m the one that gives a decent description of this moment. What can I say? It’s insane. The show is overly dirty. It had exposed breasts at every scene and a lot of nipple action in the first episode. God only knows how crazy the rest of the anime is. If the first episode is a forewarning then people who has self-respect should just back away. I take it upon myself to make a GIF of the moment though. BURN IT IN YOUR EYES!!!!!” –Karuhi

The anime: Angel Beats
The moment: In episode two, the group was low on supplies so they decided to go to their secret hiding place called the Guild and restock their weapons. There are traps going into the place and it was disabled so the SSS members can go to the Guild peacefully. However, the team inside Guild reactivated the traps for some reason. I think it's because Angel got in and so they had to bulk up their defenses. Yurippe and the gang decided to venture forward knowing full well of the traps laid before them.
They triggered one trap after another and someone gets killed every time. They don't actually die though. They just feel insanely huge amount of pain before they regenerate. Still, the somewhat grim yet funny moments of the characters triggering a trap, someone getting killed and the rest of the gang just brushing off their death is truly a funny moment.
The love: This show may have had amazing feels, but for this moment I'd like to point out the humor. Oh my god, this show was hilarious. And nothing capped it off for me than this episode in general.
Hinata "Awwwwhh yoooouuuu biiiitttttcccccchhhhhh!"
Some more love: “Hahaha! All of these deaths were great.” –Gonholio
“Violent? Yes. Unnecessarily violent? Perhaps, ...but man is it so damn funny? The bridge is, hands-down, the highlight of the entire scene, thanks in no small part to multiple sexual innuendoes and Hinata's hilarious final words before plummeting to his (temporary) death.” –MaxVolume
“The odd combo of drama and comedy in this sequence is unique given that none of these characters can actually die.” -FierceAlchemist

The anime: Deadman Wonderland
The moment: This moment takes up most of the first episode but it's a wild turn of events. Ganta gets accused of killing everyone in his class and now everyone hates him.
The whole media circus of the kid killing his entire class was insane but it was the fact that everyone thinks he was guilty that pretty much sealed this moment. He was then sentenced to be imprisoned in Deadman Wonderland where the most notorious criminals are kept. It’s too much for a whimpy kid who was just framed for a brutal murder he just happened to survive in.
The love: I love this moment because of how crazy it is. Some much happens within the first episode of Ganta going to jail. The video that comes up during Ganta's trial of him talking to the lawyer about how he killed the kids was pretty funny and just how confused Ganta is about the whole thing is great. The whole anime is great along with the lovely bleeps it sprinkles in for all the cursing.
Some more love: “The setup for the entire anime was brilliant and it had such an incredible progression that sadly the rest of the anime failed to live up to.” - Karuhi

The anime: Eden of the East
The moment: In episode one, the main character decided to go sight-seeing and ended up infront of the White House. She was amazed at the amazing sceneries before her eyes and it was ultimately overshadowed when a naked man started saving her when a bunch of police officers start questioning the girl. The two of them then run away from the police with the girl completely bewildered that a naked man just saved her life.
The love: Occasionally, all it takes to entertain me is a naked dude...
Well, this is one way to introduce your main character... by having him standing in a busy street completely naked with no memory. But unlike most of these "naked with no memory" scenes, this one plays out with far less shame and embarrassment. Instead, Takizawa seems rather ok with his exhibitionist ways. My favorite part is the way they choose to censor out his... um... "Eden of the South".
Some more love: “What a unique way to introduce a character. Nothing but a gun, a phone, and his junk swinging between his legs.” –gonholio
“I had always heard that Eden's first episode got extremely high marks, but...this wasn't the reasoning that I had in mind. XD
The fact that he's completely calm about it only makes the moment even more unsettling, and the same goes for her, too. It's too bad I'm limited to just this moment, otherwise I'd talk about the fact that he won't shut up about it for the rest of the episode. Also, ...who the hell says "johnny" anymore?” –MaxVolume
“Very bizarre but intriguing intro” –FierceAlchemist

The anime: Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun (My Little Monster)
The moment: The first episode was about the girl meeting the guy. Try as she might, she can’t get the guy to leave her. He thinks of her as his only friend now and the girl just decided to live with it. The closing moments of the first episode featured the guy reading a romantic book. Curious about kissing, he grabbed the girl and then kissed her for a long while. It was long with the girl completely shocked and blushing all over. He then let go and continued reading the book as if the kiss was just an everyday thing to him. It wasn’t for the girl though and it marks a great start for the complicated love story between the misunderstood bully and the apathetic nerd.
The love: If there was any way to steal a girl's first kiss, it probably wouldn't be the way that Yoshida Haru went about it. However, that's what makes this moment so funny. What guy would just grab a girl's shirt, kiss her, and then complain that his heart didn't start beating fast. Um, hello? There is a girl, rightly so, dumbfounded by what you just did and yet you are worried about why your plan of attack didn't work? Too funny!
Some more love: “Wait...since when did they start putting the "first kiss" scene in the first episode instead of the last one?” –MaxVolume

The anime: Attack on Titan
The moment: The event begins when the Titans attack the walled city after 100 years of peace and safety within the walls. The city is unprepared and the Titans inflict severe damage to the city and human lives. Eren runs home to find his mother pinned under the collapsed ruins of what was once their home. Eren struggles unsuccessfully to free her as a Titan approaches them. Seeing the futility of the situation, his mother begs a soldier to run away with Eren. The soldier agrees and runs away, carrying Eren on his shoulder and Eren is heartbreakingly forced to watch as the Titan closes in on his mother. We then watch as his mother remembers their happy family life and muffles herself as she sobs 'Don't go'. Her moment of weakness, so unlike the valiant, strong, self-sacrificing characters we are so used to seeing in media, is a haunting and impactful scene. Linny
The love: Attack on Titan is the tale of humanity struggling to survive in a world overtaken by giant man-eating Titans. The main character is Eren Yaeger, whose determination to kill the Titans stems from witnessing his mother getting consumed by a Titan and being helpless to stop it, and being frustrated at living like cooped up livestock due to the Titans.
The sequence of his mother's death is personally one of the first times I saw a heroic self-sacrificing character crumble when push came to shove. While it is the cliche death of a loved one, it also starts the chain of gruesome violence and deaths that the show has become famous for.
Some more love: ”Seeing Eren’s mother picked up by the Titan and then her body twisted till she died was a powerful moment. The background music was big loud drums in a slow impending beat as the Titan place the dead body in its mouth. It then bit on the body and blood burst out like its confetti. All of this was witnessed by Eren who saw the entire scene in its gory detail. This was a great sign that the worst has yet to come and you can expect the show will top this moment with more deaths to come” -Karuhi
